A single own-egg IVF cycle in Canada commonly runs C$12,000-C$20,000 once medication is included, with PGT-A, freezing and storage billed on top.
Funding depends on where you live. Ontario's programme funds one cycle but waitlists run long, Quebec offers partial coverage, and most other provinces provide little beyond tax credits.
Donor eggs are the sharpest difference. Canadian law prohibits paying donors, so donor supply is very limited and many patients import gametes or wait years. In the EU destinations below, donor compensation is capped by law, donation is anonymous and waits are usually 1-8 weeks.

Before you enquire: a Canadian patient checklist
- Request your full records from your Canadian clinic: AMH, FSH, antral follicle count, prior protocols and embryology reports.
- Ask for a written itemised quote in euros and confirm exclusions, especially medication, anaesthesia, ICSI, PGT-A and storage.
- Ask about a satellite protocol: monitoring in Canada, travel only for retrieval and transfer, usually one trip of 7-10 days.
- Plan embryo or gamete shipping early if you intend to bring embryos home; it needs a licensed courier and Health Canada import paperwork.
- Budget C$900-C$1,800 per person for transatlantic flights and C$120-C$200 a night for accommodation.

How much does IVF abroad cost from Canada?

Why is donor egg IVF so much easier in Europe?
Canadian law prohibits payment to egg donors beyond limited expense reimbursement, which keeps donor supply very low. In the EU destinations we list, donor compensation is capped and regulated rather than banned, so clinics run standing donor programmes with waits of weeks rather than years.
Can I bring embryos back to Canada?
Usually yes, with a licensed cryo-shipping company and the right consents and donor screening paperwork. Arrange it before your cycle, because some screening tests must be run at the time of retrieval to satisfy import requirements.
Is European IVF regulated to a standard Canadians would recognise?
EU member states regulate fertility treatment under national law plus the EU tissue and cells directives, which set donor screening, traceability and reporting requirements. That is a different framework from Canada's Assisted Human Reproduction Act, not a weaker one. North Cyprus (TRNC) sits outside the EU and those directives do not apply there.
Is sex selection available to Canadian patients abroad?
Non-medical sex selection is prohibited in Canada. Among the destinations we list, it is only lawful in North Cyprus (TRNC), and it is not permitted in the EU destinations. If it is a factor for you, discuss the legal and ethical implications with the clinic directly.
