A private own-egg IVF cycle in Ireland typically costs €4,500-€6,500 before medication, and most patients need more than one cycle.
The HSE fertility scheme funds one cycle for eligible patients through regional fertility hubs, but referral is via a hub assessment and criteria on age, BMI and existing children exclude many couples.
Donor eggs are the sharpest difference. Irish law under the Assisted Human Reproduction framework moved donation to an identity-release model with a national register, and donor supply is limited. In the EU destinations below, donation is anonymous and waits are usually 1-8 weeks.

Before you enquire: a Irish patient checklist
- Ask your Irish clinic or GP for your AMH, FSH, antral follicle count and any previous cycle notes before you enquire abroad.
- Ask each clinic for a written, itemised quote: consultation, monitoring scans, anaesthesia, ICSI, blastocyst culture, freezing, storage and medication.
- Confirm how many trips are needed and whether monitoring scans done in Ireland are accepted, as that usually removes one trip.
- Budget €200-€500 per trip for flights from Dublin or Cork and €70-€120 a night for accommodation for two people.
- Check whether your medication can be prescribed in Ireland and claimed under the Drugs Payment Scheme, which is sometimes cheaper than buying at the clinic.
- For donor treatment, ask whether the donor is anonymous under that country's law and what information your child can access later, because it differs from Irish law.

Are donor eggs anonymous if I travel from Ireland?
In the Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, Latvia and Poland, donation is anonymous under national law, so identifying information is not released later. Ireland operates an identity-release model with a national donor register. That legal difference matters for many families and should be a deliberate choice.
Can I have monitoring scans in Ireland and treatment abroad?
Yes. Most clinics abroad run a satellite protocol: baseline and stimulation scans are done locally in Ireland and emailed over, and you travel only for egg collection and transfer, usually one trip of 5-7 days.
Is IVF abroad safe for Irish patients?
